It’s the Holiday Season, and the Christmas holiday parties have already hit the ground running. For many working women, corporate Holiday parties create guesswork as to what is an appropriate style to wear. We discuss the Christmas party look with co-workers such as What are you wearing? Should I wear my new sequent dress? Can I wear a short or sleeveless dress at the upcoming Christmas party? Do the ladies wear gowns or cocktail dresses?
Why does a Christmas Holiday Party Look matter?
As professional and mature women, we pay extra attention to the way we present ourselves at a party for a couple of reasons: Firstly, we want to maintain a professional image within work and business. Secondly, we want to show our personal style at a social event without undermining our professionalism. Thirdly, we want to fit in with a team or a group without looking over or underdressed. After all, it is Christmas and everyone wants to express warmth and appreciation for each other.
What should you wear to a Christmas holiday party?
Figuring out what to wear to a business or corporate Holiday event depends on a few factors you can easily sort out. For instance, some of the things to consider are the industry you work in, the demographics of guests like age and culture, and the level of formality. Therefore, here are some ways to nail the right style for a business Christmas party look:
Ask the question
If this is the first time you are attending an office party, don’t hesitate to ask co-workers, your boss or the social committee members. In most cases, they will give you the inside scoop, and sometimes gossip, on office Holiday style. At the same time, if you are attending an industry or business association Holiday event, reach out to the organizer or ask other guests who have attended the events in previous years. Many of the guests are people you already know through work or networking.
Check Last Year’s Christmas Party Photos
I often browse digital event photos either on the company’s website, Corporate Public Folders, or Social Media accounts. If you work at a company, ask HR or Social Committee to give you access to the corporate photo folders. You’ll be able to see what your boss and co-workers wore in previous events and figure out how to style your Christmas look. The same applies to industry or association events that are frequently available online via Social Media or Corporate pages. Many associations post galleries of previous events with guest photos that are a good style indication.
