Talking about Fall 2020 fashion trends seems out of touch with the current global reality. We don’t know what will happen this fall and cannot determine if we will continue to live the new “not-so-normal” until further notice. Are we going to be able to celebrate the upcoming Holidays and festive season? I hesitated to write this blog because – frankly speaking – I don’t know if shopping for a new wardrobe is necessary. But I realized that the festive season is just around the corner. We are still optimistic about celebrating cultural holidays. The festive events between now and the new year are still marked in our calendars, but the way we observe them will be different. And so what if our favourite galas and networking events are canceled? This time, these holidays will be relaxing and intimate occasions to strengthen connections with our families and loved ones. I, for one, will be hosting small gatherings when possible and prepare hearty and healthy dinners.
What do I wear now?
Here’s the thing, I don’t plan to live in loungewear and joggers for the rest of 2020. No mam. It was fun and novel in the first few weeks while confined at home, but at one point, we have to step out of this “comfort zone” and take care of the way we look and feel. We must find new ways to level up our style at home and manifest elegance, even if no one is around to admire us.
Top Fall 2020 Fashion Trends To Boost Your Look At Home
March is fall fashion month when designers debut their collections and trending styles. After spending months preparing their designs, labels showcase their creations to retailers and the public and set a momentum for the upcoming season. However, this year, many styles were interrupted by the pandemic and aren’t relevant or practical for the current lifestyle. We abandoned office, weddings, cocktail parties, and vacation trends due to inforced social distancing measures. Yet the need for stay-at-home apparel skyrocketed in the spring and summer. Fall is no exception to the present circumstances. However, most of us are getting tired of cotton and fleece and are seeking for inspiration – for something chic and rejuvenating. With that in mind, I present to you some of the best fall 2020 stylish trends that you can wear at home.
Oversized blazers
High-waisted pants
Capes
Fringes
Patches
Cozy sweaters
Lingerie pieces
Colored faux leather
Vintage
Fuzzy coats
Geometry patterns
Oversized blazers
One of the most popular fall 2020 fashion trends is the oversized blazer. Wear oversized blazers this fall and winter to level up your style no matter where you go. Layer it with light fabrics like satin and cotton. Or put it on with your favourite jeans, shirt and leggings. These are a must-have!
High-waisted pants
High-waisted pants were the coveted trend of the 80s if you remember. Now some women hesitate to wear high-waisted pants because they might seem unflattering. But there are different pant cuts to consider based on your shape. High-waisted pants without pleads are slimming and cozy to wear in winter. Take a look at some of the suggested styles here.
Capes
Capes appeared frequently on fashion runways and shows in March, before the lockdown. They are versatile and come in different fabrics making them easy to wear indoors and outdoors. If you plan to spend more time at home or visiting family, replace blazers with capes to make a swanky statement.
Patches
Patches are one of fall 2020 fashion trends made their debut on March runways. Labels like Alexander Mcqueen were inspired by antique patchwork fabrics in their Fall 2020 collections. A patchy pair of jeans has a multi-dimensional look that is edgy and casual at the same time. This look makes you forget about these neutral joggers you’ve been living in all spring and summer, doesn’t it?
Cozy sweaters
Cozy sweaters are always a favourite in the colder seasons. And since this year, most of us will cozy up by a fireplace or in the company of family and close friends, large cozy sweaters are some of the favourite trends to wear. You can dress up a sweater with a long pleated skirt, wear over a slip dress and leather pants. Or you can wear them casually with a pair of jeans pants and leggings.
Lingerie pieces
Lingerie tops and dresses are essential mixing pieces this fall. I encourage you to wear these lacy bras and négligées beyond the confines of home. A lace top makes a nice mixing piece with your oversized blazer. Wear a snug turtleneck under a slip satin dress for that street-chic style. And for the wild at heart, try a lace lingerie top with a leather biker jacket and pants.
Colored faux leather
Everyone knows faux leather has been around for quite some time. This season, designers switched things up by adding more color options to faux leather pieces including shirts and pants. Faux leather is comfortable and versatile to wear outside on a cold day or indoors during the festive season. If you are not sure about leather pants, then put on a trending faux leather shirt and layer it with your favourite sweater and leggings.
Fringes
Welcome back to Fall 2020 fashion trends! Fringes are a fun way to elevate your style in the fall and they received a seal of approval from some of the most stylish celebrities recently. Rihanna appeared on the cover of Harper Bazaar Sept issue wearing a fringe- embellished coat. If you are tired of wearing satin, lace, and animal print, why not manifest the western or flapper spirit in fringes?
Vintage
Should vintage be a seasonal trend? We think not. This is a style statement to embrace moving forward as the world becomes more aware of the need for a sustainable lifestyle. I think 2020 has set the stage for vintage, many of us over 40 are now empowered to incorporate in our personal style.
Fuzzy coats
If you weren’t sure about wearing fuzzy jackets last season, then this is your chance to add this cozy fabric to your wardrobe. This fall, you will fall in love with the softness and warmth of the fluff especially when facing the chilly breeze. It’s been a hard and strange year, but the gentleness of a shearling coat may just comfort your soul.
Geometry
Oh yes! I’m excited that geometric shapes are part of the fall 2020 fashion trends. Without a doubt, these bold shapes and colors are energizing and uplifting. So if you are bored of cozy loungewear, add geo to uplift your inner creative child.
