In the midst of a pandemic, hope and faith will always prevail. The authorities are predicting that flattening the curve of Covid-19 might take a few more weeks, and possibly months. This could mean that we won’t be able to engage in social events, throughout summer. And we might continue to work from home until further notice. Shopping for summer fashion trends might be different this year as we have to adapt to the new and temporary lifestyle of working from home and staying home.
As well, if the pandemic is extended beyond April, all unnecessary services such as malls and stores may remain closed or have shorter hours of operations. It’s evident now more than ever that all fashion retailers and stores will encourage buyers to shop online. That could be a new level of experience for women who prefer to try clothes on before buying them.
How to shop for summer fashion trends while on lockdown
The first answer to this question will be to go online. If this isn’t something you are comfortable doing, don’t worry! Most, if not all, retailers offer free shipping and return policies and realize that women have different shapes and clothes fit differently based on shape. My advice is to check the shipping and return policy before placing an order. As well, call or email customer service if you have specific questions about the order and item. They’re usually friendly and accommodating. Lastly, if you are not sure about online shopping for apparel, order the styles that suit your body type, or styles you already wear.
Fashion trends ideas for summer 2020
When I was putting this list of summer fashion trends, I was thinking about the possibility of remaining on lockdown throughout the summer. Of course, no one wants to be couped at home for months at a time. We all need to go outside and socialize but until a decision is made, let’s assume the worst. In this case, our shopping mentality will be geared towards comfort and practicality. No, I’m not talking about sleepwear, track pants and leggings. There’s more to comfort than wearing cotton. The goal here is to make us all feel alive, fresh and professional. So here are some ideas you can add to your shopping cart now.
Layering
Layering is a practical idea in warm seasons if you have an air conditioner at home. Just like working at an office, our body temperature can fluctuate throughout the day especially if we’re sitting down in front of a computer all day. Needless to mention that if you are over 40, you could experience hot flashes even in cool environments. Layering with light knit cardigans, shawls, and kaftans offer adaptability to the environment you work in, home or office.
Add Colors
Wearing colorful clothes will subconsciously affect your performance, uplift your mood, and energize you. I personally love wearing colors in spring and summer as they make me feel happy, warm and energetic. If you plan to work from home and host online meetings, wear a colorful top to get your audience’s attention. Remember, brands strategically use colors to provoke certain emotions within the masses. With the right colors, you can be seen as more approachable, confident or authoritative.
Wear Linen
Instead of cotton and polyester, try wearing linen clothes in summer. The fabric is comfortable and versatile which is a classic summer fashion trend that is durable and hypoallergic. Since most of us are concerned about the environment, it’s worth mentioning that linen is a natural fiber that has a lower environmental impact than cotton. I used to wear linen quite frequently to the office during warm seasons because it looks more elegant and is breathable. At home, I always chose to wear linen cargo pants for comfort and style.
Try Jumpsuits
I am a huge fan of jumpsuits! I am so excited for they are becoming a classic style for women of all ages. They are more put together than a shirt and a pair of pants or shorts. Jumpsuits are universally known for being comfy and easy to wear. You can accessorize them in different ways, whether by switching belts, shoes (sneakers to heels) and jewellery.
Go Boho
Another summer fashion trend to consider wearing at home is Boho fashion. It’s known for being free-spirited, feminine and colorful. If we are to spend more time indoor, why can’t we invite the outdoor into our lives with flowers, paisley prints, and natural colors. The good thing is you’ll be able to pack boho on your next beach vacation which I hope we will all enjoy soon.
Put on sneakers
I started to wear sneakers inside the house upon my doctor’s recommendations to heal Plantar fasciitis (heel pain). I was used to wearing slippers inside the house like most North Americans and loved how cozy they felt. Nevertheless, wearing (clean) sneakers inside the house can make you feel more stable and comfortable. Plus, it keeps us more active and less inclined to put our feet up all the time. when I wear sneakers indoors, I am more compelled to change into activewear clothing which seems to keep me active and energized.
Summary
Regardless of which summer fashion trend you chose this year, remember that any of these choices are versatile and you can wear them when you’re back to work or on a vacation. Stay safe everyone and #stayhome
