Best 2019 fall trends
Yesterday, I was on the phone with my girlfriend who currently resides in the USA. As we were chatting and catching up on each other’s busy lives, she asked me to apprise her of the latest fall fashion trends. It was a bit of a surprise to hear this from a woman who was always ahead of the fashion game.
A few years ago, she left the business world and became a busy full-time mom with two kids. And most of us know, from experience, being a full-time mom means dedicating all the time and energy to our little rascals, with minimal attention to ourselves, mind you fashion.
Fortunately, she is realizing that it’s time to get back on track with loving and caring for herself. And in preparation for a wardrobe update, I put together the 2019 top fall fashion trends report for her and my readers.
The Revival of Gen-X Fashion Era
It’s official. The 80s are back. If you are over 40, you’ll be reminiscing on your teens and twenties, when you spot these trends on retailer sites or store windows. Thus, this season, you can proudly post images of the youthful you wearing that 80s puffy sleeve satin dress and big shoulder pad blazer. You’ll be slaying it.
Leather on Leather
The leather on leather look is a classic anecdote of the 90s, and the look has been spotted on the 2019 Fall Runway Shows. The nice thing about leather (even faux) is warmth and the ability to shield us from chilly fall winds. Needless to say that leather is always in style and is easily accessible in natural or faux variety. I listed a bunch of faux leather options to shop in the shopping section of this blog.
Pistachio

Let’s agree that it’s a pleasant color to wear in any season. However, if you think pistachio doesn’t suit your skin tone, think bottoms like pants, skirts or even a purse.
Feminine Grudge
Embed from Getty ImagesThis look reminds us of Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” video, doesn’t it? The only exception is Madonna’s choice to wear white, for a good reason one would assume. The infusion of lace turns a badass grudge into a hopeless romantic rock star. Wear a black lace top with a pair of black denim or leather, along with combat boots and chains, and let’s rock n’roll.
Lavender
Embed from Getty ImagesI am so glad Lavender is finally trending this fall. Not only is it my favourite color (next to red), but it’s also a welcome move from the dominating pink. I think Lavender deserves an ongoing presence in the fashion and design scenes due to its peaceful and happy aura. Let’s go a little lavender.
Feathers
Embed from Getty ImagesThis might ruffle many feathers but it seems we’re reviving the Plume Boom era. Now, although feathers do add a touch of allure, I have to say that maintaining a feathered piece is a demanding task. The reason is that the feathers tend to fall off easily. But I will leave this up to you to explore.
Satin
Embed from Getty ImagesOMG! Finally after years of lace’s magisterial presence, satin wins the fashion game this fall. It is absolutely a regal fabric to wear and is very flattering on any body type. However, I highly recommend investing in high quality satin pieces. Good satin fabric should not be stiff or too flimsy but rather silky and solid. Some of the best classic satin looks to shop this season are satin skirts, slip dresses and satin shirts.
Fleece
Embed from Getty ImagesAs designers shy away from fur, many are employing fleece to depict the demeanor of fur. And that’s quite the cozy alternative. So ladies, embrace this cushy look this season and snuggle up in fleece.
Power Shoulders
Embed from Getty ImagesHere comes the 80s looking all mighty on the 2019 fall fashion runways. Yup if you are an 80s kid, you probably remember Joan Collins, or Cindy Crawford in full fledge power shoulders. I will pass on this trend – been there, done that.
Puffy Sleeves
Embed from Getty ImagesAt one point in time, we all looked at our 80s photos and wondered why on Earth did we agree to wearing such trend. Until recent years, this trend was a total faux pas, but I actually love puffy sleeves. The reason for that is they flatter the waist and hips by making them look smaller. If you have narrow shoulders, like me, I suggest giving puffy sleeves a break this season. Check some of the ideas in the shopping section below.
Utility

Thanks to the rising popularity of street-style fashion and forward thinking brands such as Off–White, Supreme and Vetements. If you haven’t heard about this brands, just ask a teenager. These brands are as trendy as Guess was back in the 80s and 90s.
Corduroy
Embed from Getty ImagesLet’s face it, the only time Corduroy is out of style is in summer! This is a classic and cozy look to ward off nasty bone chilling winds. We wear them to stay warm.
Speaking of classic, some of this season’s trends are staples in any wardrobe. Here are some tips on classic yet trendy pieces worth the investment.
